Registered under the Societies Registration Act, 1860, BITM acts as a centre for learning and development for social-sector organisations in Jharkhand.

BITM was established as an offshoot of Badlao Foundation to help address the shortage of skilled and committed human resources required for rural transformation.

The Institute provides training to people working in government institutions, civil-society organisations, Panchayati Raj Institutions and grassroots development programmes.

Since inception, BITM has trained more than 8,200 people across diversified areas of development including Panchayati Raj, Natural Resource Management, farm and non-farm livelihoods, HIV/AIDS, education and community development.

BITM also organises workshops, meetings, seminars and exposure programmes and has experience in research, documentation and evaluation.

Our Development Perspective

Development That Is Participatory, Local and Sustainable

Rural communities in Jharkhand continue to face challenges related to livelihood security, access to knowledge, institutional capacity and sustainable development.

BITM works to strengthen individuals and institutions so that development processes become more participatory, locally informed and sustainable.

The Institute supports work related to livelihood, health, education, economic transformation and social upliftment.

BITM has particularly focused on marginalised communities, including tribal communities and disadvantaged social groups.

Our Approach

From Participation to Sustainable Community Action

01

Empowerment-Based Participation

BITM follows an empowerment-based participatory approach, enabling communities to take an active role in their own development.

02

Communities as Participants

Instead of treating communities merely as beneficiaries, BITM promotes their participation in planning, learning, decision-making and development action.

03

Partnership & Shared Learning

The Institute works in coordination with civil-society organisations, government institutions, researchers and other like-minded organisations.

BITM's institutional philosophy draws inspiration from Gandhian thought and the J.P. movement, reinforcing its commitment to participatory and people-centred development.
